“After 20-years of research and 60,000 exit interviews, 80% of staff turnover can be related to unsatisfactory relationships with the boss” Saratoga Institute, a division of PWC

It’s an all-too-common story, someone who is technically excellent in their role is promoted to a management and leadership position. That means understanding people, their roles and relationships, how to inspire and motivate them. How to build a high performing team and retain key talent. How to successfully hold challenging conversations around an individual’s performance, their behaviour, and their personal problems and personality clashes.

Our emotionally intelligent leadership programme develops authentic, confident leaders.

We use proven psychological models and surveys, respected leadership research and theory and we let leaders try them on for comfort, style and fit.  Our learning-by-doing methodology builds authentic leadership awareness and confidence. Our team of behaviour experts and actors have all worked in business environments, and have experienced real-world relationship challenges, politics and pressures first hand.

Maximising Performance

Performance Management isn’t dead. The old way of thinking about it is

“The principle of management is the art of getting things done through people”
Mary Parker Follet

Peter Drucher describes managing performance, as “The fundamental task of management is to make people capable of joint performance through common goals, common values, the right structure and the training and development they need to perform and respond to change”

Managing and developing high-performing teams in today’s workplace is challenging. Matrix structures are common along with the varied methods of today’s communication. Improving performance whilst maintaining a high-quality relationship; holding challenging feedback conversations, delivering successful coaching and mentoring sessions are often missed due to the pressure of work and the remote location of teams. All-too frequently performance reviews are reduced to 6-monthly appraisal meetings; engagement with the process is low. The result – performance suffers.

Our Maximising Performance programme empowers managers to achieve high performance

We use proven psychological models and surveys, respected situational leadership research and theory and we let managers try these on for comfort, style and fit.  Our learning-by-doing methodology builds authentic manager awareness and confidence. Our team of behaviour experts and actors have all worked in business environments, and have experienced real-world relationship challenges, politics and pressures first hand.

Relationship Intelligence

If you don’t understand people, you don’t understand business

“100% of customers are people, 100% of employees are people”
Simon Sinek

A recent survey by The Gallup Organisation identified that 84% of the time organisations recruited or promoted technically competent employees who had little/no direct management experience. Otherwise known as ‘The Peter Principle’.

The lack of awareness in how to build high-quality trust based relationships with customers, colleagues, line-managers and any other stakeholder is hurting organisations. Where there is a lack of relationship there is frequently conflict. The CBI estimates that the cost to UK businesses of workplace conflict is £33 billion annually with a loss of 370 million days. This isn’t taking into account the personal cost of conflict. 33% of UK workers regularly experience sleepless nights due to stress (Mental Health Foundation).

Knowing how to successfully manage relationships with others is key to both individual and organisational success. Yet where can you find the route-map and the instruction manual for all these different people?

Our relationship intelligence programme develops confident and dynamic people skills.

We use proven psychological models and surveys, respected interpersonal research and theory and we let learners try them on for comfort, style and fit.  Our learning-by-doing methodology builds authentic communication awareness and confidence. Our team of behaviour experts and actors have all worked in business environments, and have experienced real-world relationship challenges, politics and pressures first hand.

Presentation & Personal Impact

People who know what they’re talking about don’t need PowerPoint

“You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can’t get them across, your ideas won’t get you anywhere”
Lee Lacocca, CEO Chrysler Corporation

Possibly the most exposing and stressful activity of any manager or leader is when they have to make a presentation. The person’s ability to successfully communicate their key message to colleagues, direct reports or customers is one, which strikes dread in the most seasoned of leaders. Made worse by the prevalence of Ted talks where confident, relaxed, engaging leaders stroll confidently around a space, whilst being filmed! PowerPoint first regarded as the savior of presentations with its animations and endless bullet points is now seen as a guaranteed audience dis-engager. What is a leader to do?

Our Presentation & Personal Impact programme develops authentic, confident speakers.

We use proven psychological models and surveys, respected communication research and theory and we let leaders try these on for comfort, style and fit.  Our learning-by-doing methodology builds authentic manager awareness and confidence. Our team of behaviour experts and actors have all worked in business environments, and have experienced real-world relationship challenges, politics and pressures first hand.

Leading Through Change

Change only succeeds when leaders do something different

“65% of all respondents reported that the change had been poorly thought-through and communicated, rolled-out too fast and with little consultation, engagement or preparation”
Harvard Business Review – 2014 Survey

The Harvard Business review continues with the startling fact that 54% of all change initiatives are unsuccessful. The report concludes that the top reasons for this low success rate is a combination of change fatigue and a top team who dictates change rather than engage their people in readiness for change. The biggest trap is a leader who assumes communication is the same as engagement – its not. Any wonder then that so many change initiatives end in total or partial failure.

Our leading through change programme sets leaders up for change success.

We use proven psychological models and surveys, respected change leadership research and theory and we let leaders try these on for comfort, style and fit. Our learning-by-doing methodology builds authentic leadership awareness and confidence. Our team of behaviour experts and actors have all worked in business environments, and have experienced real-world relationship challenges, politics and pressures first hand.

“52% of women surveyed have experienced some form of sexual harassment in the workplace.”
TUC report 2016

In 2015 the ACAS helpline received over 20,000 calls relating to workplace bullying. This figure has risen every year.

Be it excessive banter, unwanted physical contact, remarks on age, appearance, gender, sexual orientation, race or martial status. Jokes made at personal expense. Setting impossible deadlines, micro-aggression, personal insults, persistent unwarranted criticism, and failure to safeguard personal information. Gossip, slander, unwanted texts, calls, emails, letters. Intentional isolation or passive-aggressive coercion.

With some very recent high profile cases highlighting the increasing challenge of an endemic culture of abuse and bullying in some organisations. Yet research indicates this is a growing problem, which is yet to be fully eradicated. The significant challenge facing leaders and managers is in changing the culture and values of an organisation and then changing the behaviour of its people.

Our Bullying and Harassment programme develops conscious awareness of all workplace relationships.

We use proven psychological models and surveys, respected research, communication theory and then we let participants try these on for comfort, style and fit.  Our learning-by-doing methodology builds authentic awareness and confidence. Our team of behaviour experts and actors have all worked in business environments, and have experienced real-world relationship challenges, politics and pressures first hand.

Selling for the Reluctant

People buy from people they trust

“Most people think selling is the same as talking but the most effective sales people know that listening is the most important part of the job”
Roy Bartell.

Today more and more organisations are expecting their technical experts and specialists to bring in new business through networking and building effective stakeholder relationships. All-too-frequently an individual’s performance objectives and promotion rely on successful business development.

For many the idea of selling what you do, even selling yourself is completely daunting and ultimately career limiting. It’s the stuff of nightmares and stressful sleepless nights. All too often they try to sell, realise they’re not successful and conclude they can’t ever sell successfully. Ultimately there is an impact on the individual’s brand and on an organisation’s productivity and profitability. At Corporate Drama we believe everyone can learn to sell.

Our selling for the reluctant programme develops confident, authentic business developers.

We explore what makes a successful trust-based relationship and the key to successfully influencing different people. Listening, questioning and how best to present your ideas and solutions. Creating an authentic, confident communication style, which represents your brand and values. Then we let learners practice their newfound awareness to build new levels of confidence. Our team of behaviour experts and actors have all worked in business environments, and have experienced real-world relationship challenges, politics and pressures first hand.

Dynamic Business Partnering

It’s not what you know or whom you know, but who knows you

“A strategic business partnership is a long-term relationship between customers and suppliers to achieve defined objectives. These activities ensure the organisation’s success and prosperity”
Harvard Business Review

An increasingly common demand of functions such as HR and Finance is that their technical specialists become business partners. This presents a major cultural change for these individuals; no longer are they to rely on the business coming to them for their advice and wisdom. Now they have to approach other business functions and establish a relationship. They now have to sell themselves and their specialty to key stakeholders and their teams. They have to manage and develop these relationships, challenging and influencing collaboratively, negotiating successful outcomes and presenting their recommendations.

This means establishing and maintaining a trust-based relationship. It means understanding people and the impact of your behaviour and communication. This for many technical specialists is a very new experience and a very different way of working.

Our Dynamic Business Partnering programme develops confident, authentic business partners.

We use proven psychological models and surveys, respected interpersonal research and theory and we let business partners try them on for comfort, style and fit.  Our learning-by-doing methodology builds authentic awareness and confidence. Our team of behaviour experts and actors have all worked in business environments, and have experienced real-world relationship challenges, politics and pressures first hand.
